Romantic Intimate Wedding at the Historic Vance Birthplace
On a beautiful day like September 22, 2018 at the NC Historic Site: Vance Birthplace, you would never guess that we were dealing with Hurricane and Tropical Storm warnings just one week prior! And thank the good Lord that Asheville and it’s surrounding mountains were not terribly affected. Neither Ella nor Chris would have let one drop of it rain on their parade anyway. These two enjoyed one of the most heartfelt and intimate weddings that I have ever experienced.
From the moment guests arrived, you could just feel the inviting and family-like atmosphere. As Ella & Chris agreed not to see each other before the ceremony, Chris greeted family and friends with big bear hugs and even bigger smiles. Ella stayed tucked in the car as Chris yelled out to the party: “Let’s have a wedding!” and clapped his hands with excitement, letting everyone know it was time to enjoy the beaming sunshine and a ceremony to remember.
With tears of joy, Ella & Chris enjoyed some privacy as we walked around Vance Birthplace taking their newlywed photos. They chattered like school kids in love as we moved from one setting to the next, and I reminded them to just enjoy each moment. This day, this event, these hours, and every tiny moment throughout, were all for them. From every smile and eye contact they made with each other, I know they felt it too.
The pavilion at Vance Birthplace was perfectly sized for their intimate gathering of friends and family. Everyone enjoyed delicious finger sandwiches, meatballs, quiches, side dishes, and a multitude of fruits and vegetables displayed buffet-style. The cake was exquisitely designed by Cakin' It Up especially for Ella & Chris with two glass-blown hearts, crafted by their dear friend and local glass-blowing artisan, Jason Probstein. Chris even got his own Groom’s Cake baked and decorated by his family and friends; a deep red velvet inside with cream cheese frosting and pecans … Can you say, “SUPER YUM!”?
For their first dance as husband and wife, Ella & Chris swayed to Ed Sheeran’s hit song “Perfect” like they were the only ones on that historic wooden floor. Though their reception was shorter than the typical four-hour extravaganza, time seemed to stand still for these two as they joked and laughed with their closest loved ones. Guests lined the small pathway as Ella & Chris walked hand-in-hand through ribbon streamers of lavender and violet. And off they drove into the setting sun… Not before putting their convertible top down, of course!
Big thanks to all those who helped make Ella & Chris’ day one for the memory books!
